When to Get a Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is typically recommended for adults starting at age 45 to 50 as part of routine screening for colorectal cancer, especially for those with average risk. It may be done earlier if there is a family history of colorectal cancer or certain genetic conditions, or if a person experiences symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, blood in the stool, or persistent abdominal pain.
